Cleaning leather and suede garments require different processes compared to cleaning garments constructed of fabric. Fabrics are constructed of uniform fibers whilst leather or suede is made up of a skin or hide of an animal using a tanning process.
It is important to understand the following
- Some stains on leather can not be removed if they have saturated the skin
- Ground in stains particularly on suede garments is extremely difficult to remove and can not normally be treated to remove without causing damage to the skin
- Perspiration can discolor, cause staining and make the skin to harden
