Silk is a natural protein fiber which is used to construct many garments.

Dry cleaning is normally the preferred method for cleaning silk fabrics and most care labels will actually instruct “dry clean only”. This is normally due to a number of reasons which relate to the way silk reacts to water and any form of agitation. Dyes on silk can also be colour fast to dry cleaning solvent and there may be issues with dye running in the wet cleaning process.

Dry cleaning silk is very effective for removing most makeup stains on silk items. Fake tans can be more difficult to remove as some products contain chemicals that are designed to set on the skin and create a prolonged tanned look. We recommend that certain fake tan products are avoided to increase the longevity of your clothing.

It is common to see silk garments with alcohol or water based stains which will normally need to be professionally wet cleaned. This involves the use of specialty equipment and finishing processes for optimal results.
