Appropriate storage of garments is important as different fabrics can become effected by mildew, insect damage, light exposure and fume fading.

The following factors should be considered when storing garments in your home.

Temperature – it is important in hotter climates such as ours in Queensland that garments are stored at cooler temperatures to avoid moth or insect infestation and mildew or other fungal growth.

Humidity – the optimal humidity is another critical factor in regards to garment storage. The optimal humidity is 50-55% and if it raises above this level garments may be subject to insect attack or fungal growth.

Air circulation – garments or furnishings should never be stored in the dry cleaning film which we return your garments in. This will prevent air circulation and increase the humidity of the item.

Light exposure – prolonged light exposure will effect different fabrics over time. Some fabric will last longer amounts of time while others will loose colour or integrity with smaller amounts of light exposure.

Insurance – when taking out home and contents insurance it may be a smart idea to check if your insurer covers your furnishings or garments if there is a mold outbreak in your home which may be caused by weather disasters.
